Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate psychiatric care to patients in a correctional facility setting, ensuring dignity and safety
- Administer medications and document medication administration accurately and on time
- Conduct observations and assessments to identify changes in mental status and escalate concerns appropriately
- Use de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention skills to maintain a safe therapeutic environment
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to develop and follow individualized care plans
- Maintain thorough, timely documentation and follow facility and regulatory policies during every shift
- Participate in the two-week training program to learn facility-specific procedures and expectations
Qualifications
- Current and valid Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) license required
- Experience working with psychiatric or behavioral health populations preferred
- Ability to pass background clearance and any facility-required screenings for correctional work
- Strong communication skills and a calm, patient-centered approach to care
- Current basic life support (BLS) or CPR certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Willingness to complete facility onboarding and the two-week training schedule
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a Psychiatric Technician program; LPT licensure required
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of psychiatric care principles and mental health conditions
- Skill in medication administration and safe documentation practices
- Proven de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques
- Ability to perform patient observations and report changes clearly
- Teamwork and communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration
- Familiarity with correctional facility safety protocols is a plus
