Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and evaluate patients' speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing needs using evidence-based tools
- Develop individualized treatment plans that set measurable goals and track progress
- Provide skilled therapy interventions and modify plans based on patient response
- Perform instrumental and bedside swallow evaluations as indicated and recommend safe swallowing strategies
- Document evaluations, treatment plans, and progress notes accurately and timely in the facility EHR
- Collaborate with rehabilitation team members, nursing staff, families, and caregivers to ensure coordinated care
- Educate patients and families on strategies, exercises, and home programs to support carryover and long-term gains
Qualifications
- Current state license to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist (Virginia license required or able to obtain)
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred
- Minimum clinical experience in adult rehabilitation or related settings preferred
- Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain
- Strong documentation skills and experience with facility EHRs
Education
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology (or equivalent graduate training)
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in comprehensive speech, language, cognitive-communication, and dysphagia assessment
- Proven ability to create and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans
- Comfortable with interdisciplinary collaboration and family education
- Strong clinical reasoning, time management, and documentation practices
- Familiarity with adaptive equipment and augmentative/alternative communication when needed
