Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and evaluate patients' speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing needs using evidence-based tools
• Develop individualized treatment plans that set measurable goals and track progress
• Provide skilled therapy interventions and modify plans based on patient response
• Perform instrumental and bedside swallow evaluations as indicated and recommend safe swallowing strategies
• Document evaluations, treatment plans, and progress notes accurately and timely in the facility EHR
• Collaborate with rehabilitation team members, nursing staff, families, and caregivers to ensure coordinated care
• Educate patients and families on strategies, exercises, and home programs to support carryover and long-term gains

Qualifications

• Current state license to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist (Virginia license required or able to obtain)
• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent
• ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) preferred
• Minimum clinical experience in adult rehabilitation or related settings preferred
• Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain
• Strong documentation skills and experience with facility EHRs

Education

• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology (or equivalent graduate training)

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in comprehensive speech, language, cognitive-communication, and dysphagia assessment
• Proven ability to create and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans
• Comfortable with interdisciplinary collaboration and family education
• Strong clinical reasoning, time management, and documentation practices
• Familiarity with adaptive equipment and augmentative/alternative communication when needed
