Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide skilled physical therapy interventions and assistive treatments as directed by the supervising physical therapist
• Deliver compassionate patient-centered care to help patients regain mobility and independence
• Perform therapeutic exercise, gait training, transfers, and functional activities with safety and confidence
• Document patient progress accurately and timely in the facility’s medical records
• Collaborate with PTs, nursing, and the interdisciplinary team to create effective care plans
• Educate patients and families on home programs and safety to support long-term outcomes
• Support discharge planning and communicate goals clearly to ensure continuity of care

Qualifications

• Current and active Physical Therapist Assistant license (state specific license required upon hire)
• Completion of an accredited PTA program
• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required or willing to obtain
• Previous experience in outpatient, inpatient rehab, or skilled nursing settings preferred
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
• Able to pass facility onboarding, background checks, and any required health screenings

Education

• Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
• Graduation certificate or diploma from an accredited PTA program

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of therapeutic exercise principles and gait training techniques
• Skilled in safe patient handling, transfers, and fall prevention strategies
• Familiarity with common rehab modalities and assistive devices
• Comfortable with clinical documentation and electronic medical records
• Good clinical judgment, time management, and patient education abilities
• Professional bedside manner and the ability to motivate patients
