Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide skilled occupational therapy interventions under the supervision of an OTR to help patients regain independence
- Conduct patient assessments, document progress, and develop individualized treatment plans
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and physicians to coordinate patient-focused care plans
- Train patients and families on adaptive techniques, home safety, and equipment use to support long-term success
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to facility policies and regulatory standards
- Contribute to a positive, recovery-focused environment by supporting interdisciplinary team goals
Qualifications
- Current COTA credential (Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant)
- State licensure or ability to obtain state authorization where required
- Minimum experience working in inpatient rehab, skilled nursing, or similar settings preferred
- Current CPR/BLS certification as required by facility
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort with clinical documentation
Education
- Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant or related field (or equivalent education and training)
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in therapeutic activities, ADL retraining, adaptive equipment assessment and training
- Knowledge of rehabilitation principles and ability to modify treatment to meet patient needs
- Proficient with electronic medical records and clinical documentation best practices
- Ability to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team
- Strong time management, prioritization, and patient-education skills
