Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare and dispense medications accurately following facility and legal guidelines
- Maintain medication inventory and perform routine stock checks to ensure availability
- Document medication administration and keep accurate patient and pharmacy records
- Collaborate with nursing and medical staff to support safe medication practices
- Follow infection control and safety protocols specific to the correctional healthcare setting
- Participate in orientation and training to learn facility-specific processes and systems
Qualifications
- Active Pharmacy Technician license or certification as required by California
- Prior experience as a Pharmacy Technician preferred; correctional healthcare experience a plus
- Ability to pass background check and any facility-specific clearance requirements
- Reliable attendance for a Monday–Friday daytime schedule
- Basic computer skills and comfort with electronic medication records
- Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening as required by the facility
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Pharmacy Technician certification (PTCB or state-recognized) preferred/required per state rules
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of medication preparation, labeling, and dispensing procedures
- Familiarity with inventory control and medication storage requirements
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
- Good communication skills for working with multidisciplinary teams
- Understanding of state and federal pharmacy regulations and safety practices
