Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide skilled nursing care to patients within a correctional facility, prioritizing safety and dignity
- Assess, document, and monitor patient status and escalate concerns to clinical leadership
- Administer medications and treatments accurately and according to facility protocols
- Collaborate with custody staff and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care in a secure environment
- Maintain strict compliance with facility rules, including restrictions on personal devices and wearable technology
- Complete timely charting, medication reconciliation, and transfer/incident paperwork
Qualifications
- Active LPN license in Pennsylvania required
- Recent LPN clinical experience; correctional or med-surg experience highly valued
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required or obtained upon hire
- Clear background check and ability to work inside a secured jail setting (no smart watches or personal cell phones allowed inside)
- Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening per facility policy
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with security and clinical staff
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program (LPN/Vocational Nurse diploma or certificate)
Knowledge & Skills
- Sound knowledge of medication administration and basic nursing procedures
- Ability to perform accurate patient assessments and document findings clearly
- Comfort working independently in a controlled, secure environment
- Familiarity with infection control practices and safety protocols
- Good situational awareness and professional boundary management in correctional settings
