Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living including bathing, dressing, and toileting with dignity and compassion
- Monitor and record vital signs and behavioral changes, reporting concerns promptly to nursing staff
- Provide meaningful companionship and emotional support to residents, helping improve quality of life
- Assist with mobility and safe transfer techniques to prevent falls and promote independence
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of care and communicate clearly with the care team and families
- Follow infection control procedures and facility policies to maintain a safe environment
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented atmosphere by supporting coworkers and participating in huddles
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification (required)
- CPR/BLS certification preferred or willing to obtain
- Comfortable working with geriatric populations and assisting with ADLs
- Strong communication skills and an upbeat, patient-centered attitude
- Ability to pass background checks and required health screenings
- Previous long-term care or assisted living experience is a plus
Education
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of an accredited Geriatric Nursing Assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Skill in safe patient handling and transfer techniques
- Basic clinical skills: taking vitals, observing changes, documenting care
- Familiarity with infection prevention and standard precautions
- Ability to build rapport with residents and work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
- Good time management and the ability to prioritize resident needs
