Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate direct care to residents, assisting with daily living activities
- Monitor resident condition and report changes promptly to nursing staff
- Assist with safe transfers, mobility, and ambulation to promote independence
- Support mealtime routines and document intake as required
- Maintain a clean, safe, and respectful environment for residents
- Build trusting relationships with residents and their families through kind communication
- Follow infection control practices and facility policies consistently
- Participate in shift handoffs and accurate documentation to ensure continuity of care
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification in the applicable state
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or required by facility
- Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening as required by the employer
- Ability to pass background check and drug screen
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings preferred but caring attitude matters most
- Strong communication skills and the physical ability to assist with resident mobility
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- GNA certification or state-equivalent nursing assistant credential
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of basic geriatric care principles and activities of daily living support
- Comfortable with documentation and following care plans
- Ability to observe and report changes in resident condition
- Person-centered approach with patience and empathy
- Basic infection control and safety practices
