Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, resident-centered care to geriatric patients with dignity and respect
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility
- Monitor and document vital signs, behaviors, and changes in condition accurately and timely
- Support safe meal service and assist with feeding when needed, honoring dietary needs
- Collaborate with nursing staff and interdisciplinary team to implement personalized care plans
- Maintain a safe, clean environment and report safety concerns or incidents promptly
- Communicate clearly and empathetically with residents and families to support emotional needs
- Adhere to facility policies, infection control standards, and state practice guidelines
Qualifications
- Active GNA certification (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) - required
- Current, valid state authorization to practice in Maryland (as applicable)
- Current CPR/BLS certification (preferred or required by many facilities)
- Comfortable working the 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM shift and adapting to resident needs
- Compassionate bedside manner, strong communication skills, and reliability
- Prior experience in long-term care or geriatric settings is a plus
Education
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of an approved GNA training program and certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Proficient in assisting with ADLs and safe patient handling techniques
- Accurate documentation and basic charting skills
- Ability to recognize changes in condition and escalate appropriately
- Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork in a multidisciplinary environment
- Infection control practices and safe use of PPE
