Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate direct care to geriatric residents, supporting comfort and dignity
- Assist with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding
- Monitor resident condition and accurately document observations and changes
- Support safe mobility and transfers using proper body mechanics and equipment
- Follow care plans and collaborate closely with nurses and interdisciplinary team members
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents
- Communicate effectively with families and the care team to support resident-centered care
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification or equivalent required; Maryland certification preferred or eligibility for reciprocity
- CPR/BLS certification required or must obtain upon hire
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings preferred but new grads encouraged to apply
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and meet facility onboarding requirements
- Strong interpersonal skills and a compassionate, resident-first attitude
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of an accredited GNA or nursing assistant training program preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Basic knowledge of geriatric care principles and dignity-focused support
- Proficiency in assisting with ADLs and safe transfer techniques
- Ability to take and record vital signs accurately
- Familiarity with infection control and safety protocols
- Comfortable with documentation and clear communication in the care team
- Patience and skills for working with residents who have dementia or cognitive impairment
