Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care within the correctional medical unit
- Administer medications, document nursing interventions, and monitor patient status
- Perform focused assessments and report changes in condition to supervising clinicians
- Support treatment plans and assist with wound care, vital signs, and routine clinical procedures
- Maintain accurate, timely charting and follow facility policies for security and safety
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to deliver coordinated care
- Participate in orientation and training to ensure compliance with facility standards
Qualifications
- Valid California LVN license in good standing (required)
- LPT certification or experience working with psychiatric/behavioral populations is a plus
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification or ability to obtain upon hire
- Experience in med administration, documentation, and basic nursing assessments
- Prior correctional healthcare or institutional experience preferred but not required
- Ability to pass facility security clearance and follow site-specific protocols
- Professional attitude, strong communication skills, and teamwork mindset
Education
- Vocational nursing diploma or equivalent completion of an accredited LVN program
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid medication administration and infection control practices
- Accurate clinical documentation and electronic charting comfort
- Basic assessment skills: vitals, wound checks, and patient observation
- Ability to work calmly and safely in a secure/correctional environment
- Effective verbal communication and de-escalation techniques
- Time management skills to maintain productivity across assigned patients
