Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor telemetry and recognize dysrhythmias promptly to keep patients safe
• Provide high-quality MedSurg nursing care for inpatients with secondary behavioral health needs
• Perform skilled procedures such as Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (SIMs Lab competency required)
• Maintain sterile technique and pass SIMs Lab skills checks on Day 1
• Document patient care accurately and efficiently in Cerner
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (Psych MD on unit, RT, Pharmacy, SWAT RN) to coordinate safe patient care
• Support patient safety through behavioral observations, video monitoring coordination, and restraint/lift procedures when required
• Float to ED psych holds or MedSurg floors as needed and provide charge nurse support when assigned

Qualifications

• Active RN license (able to submit; willing to wait if processing)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience — MedSurg/Telemetry experience required
• Level I trauma experience required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Must pass the dysrhythmia exam prior to accepting (two attempts permitted)
• Competency in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (Day 1 SIMs Lab pass/fail)
• Cerner charting experience preferred
• Comfort and willingness to care for patients with behavioral health components (psychiatric experience preferred but not required)

Education

• Active RN license in good standing (ADN or Diploma acceptable; BSN not required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition
• MedSurg nursing fundamentals and complex patient assessment
• Sterile technique and procedural skills (Foley, central line dressing)
• Behavioral health observation and de-escalation basics
• Cerner electronic charting and documentation
• Ability to work with video monitoring and coordinate with security/behavioral techs
• Safe patient handling (lifts) and restraint protocols
• IV skills and familiarity with SWAT RN/IV team processes
