Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts; Days: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM, Nights: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM. Schedule includes every-other-week (EOW) patterns, 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule (Weekends: Fri/Sat for nights; Sat/Sun for days). Shift type: day_night

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide safe, patient-centered telemetry and med-surg nursing care for a mixed population including post-surgical, bariatrics, total joints and stroke patients
- Continuously monitor and accurately interpret cardiac rhythms using GE telemetry systems
- Manage set-rate drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Heparin) according to unit policy (no titration required)
- Perform bedside shift report, intentional hourly rounding and medication teaching with patients and families
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including RT, CNAs, charge nurses and house supervisors to coordinate care and smooth patient flow
- Accept floating assignments as needed to Mercy Downtown, other MS Tele units, ICU for MedSurg Tele patients or the ED for MedSurg holds
- Uphold strict attendance and professional standards to maintain patient safety in a fast-paced surgical unit
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (California or compact agreement eligibility encouraged)
- Minimum 2 years clinical RN experience (telemetry/med-surg experience strongly preferred)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIHSS certification required (AHA or APEX accepted)
- Comfortable caring for bariatric and total joint surgical patients and potential oncology or stroke patients
- Experience with Cerner charting preferred
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythms independently
Education
- Active RN license required
- BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation (GE monitor experience a plus)
- MedSurg nursing fundamentals including post-operative care and wound/orthopedic care
- Set-rate drip management (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Heparin) and safe medication administration
- Familiarity with CPAP/BiPAP management per RT and MD orders
- Strong patient education, clinical judgment and time-management skills in a high-acuity environment
- Effective communication and teamwork for bedside shift report and multidisciplinary coordination
