Shift Type: Rotating nights: typically 3x 12-hour night shifts per week, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (NOC). 12-hour shifts, 36 hours/week guaranteed, every-other-weekend (EOW) requirement; may float to other Med-Surg units and serve as first to float.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide on-shift leadership as charge nurse: coordinate patient assignments, triage resources, and ensure safe, high-quality care
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and telemetry monitoring for med-surg and chemo/tele patients
• Deliver compassionate direct care including central line and PICC/midline management
• Serve as a clinical mentor and preceptor: teach, coach, and support staff and patients
• Round on patients and address service or safety concerns to promote excellent patient experience
• Collaborate with monitor techs, resource nurses, RT, pharmacy, and hospitalists to expedite care
• Document accurately and timely in Cerner EMR and communicate changes in patient condition
• Respond to standby/call expectations (report within 30 minutes if placed on standby)

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to submit in CA)
• Minimum 3 years of RN experience; previous charge RN in most recent assignment required (no first-time travelers)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) and NIHSS certification (AHA or APEX)
• Strong central line, PICC and midline experience
• Med-Surg and Telemetry experience; comfort caring for oncology-history patients and pediatrics over age 15
• Ability to precept and teach, with strong communication and leadership skills
• Comfort using Cerner EMR and participating in remote telemetry monitoring workflows

Education

• Active RN license required
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation
• Med-Surg nursing best practices and patient assessment
• Charge nurse workflows, staffing coordination, and unit leadership
• Cerner electronic charting and documentation
• Central line/PICC/midline care and infection prevention
• Collaborative teamwork with monitor techs, RT, pharmacy, and resource nurses
• Ability to prioritize tasks during variable census and staffing levels
