Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide on-shift leadership as the charge nurse to ensure safe, high-quality, compassionate patient care
- Serve as a clinical mentor and resource for staff, offering guidance on clinical and interpersonal issues
- Round on patients to identify and address service or safety concerns proactively
- Assume charge nurse duties as needed based on census and staffing levels
- Support a positive work environment through coaching, delegation, and timely communication
- Perform accurate and timely documentation using Cerner to maintain continuity of care
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and improve outcomes
Qualifications
- Active RN license (able to submit CA license) — state licensure as required
- Minimum 3 years of nursing experience
- Must have served as a charge RN in most recent assignment (no first-time travelers)
- Current ACLS and BLS (AHA) certifications required
- NIHSS certification (AHA or APEX) required
- Telemetry experience required and familiarity with Cerner charting
- Comfort with float assignments and taking on managerial/lead responsibilities
Education
- Active RN license
- BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong telemetry monitoring skills and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Proven charge nurse leadership and team coordination
- Clinical mentorship and coaching abilities
- Skilled in patient rounding and identifying safety/service issues
- Proficient with Cerner electronic health record
- Ability to handle managerial responsibilities, staffing decisions, and escalation
