Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to oncology and telemetry patients on a 32-bed acute unit
- Interpret telemetry and EKGs and respond to arrhythmias and patient changes promptly
- Perform and manage advanced skills including central line dressing changes and Foley catheter insertion following sterile technique
- Manage ventilator adjuncts such as BiPAP and CPAP and collaborate with RT for respiratory needs
- Administer and monitor chemotherapy when applicable and escalate concerns to providers
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including hospitalists, pharmacy, and SWAT IV team to optimize patient outcomes
- Serve as an oncology resource RN and support charge nurse duties with light patient assignment as needed
- Document care and assessments accurately in Cerner EMR
Qualifications
- Active RN license (able to submit; agency willing to wait if needed)
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience (acute care/oncology/telemetry preferred)
- Current BLS and ACLS required
- Chemotherapy certification is a strong plus
- Proven competency with telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation
- Demonstrated skill with IV access/management, central line care, and Foley catheter insertion
- Comfortable working 12-hour night shifts and floating to other Med Surg/Tele units
- Must pass required pre-hire DYS exam (2 attempts allowed; failure results in 6-month DNU with CS AZ and Sac Region)
- Travel team requirements: must have own vehicle
- Facility policy requirements: natural hair color, no facial piercings, men must be clean shaven for fit testing
- Willingness to complete and pass SIMs Lab (sterile field, Foley insertion, central line dressing changes) and other orientation competencies
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate or Diploma or BSN accepted)
- BSN preferred but not explicitly required
Knowledge & Skills
- Oncology nursing principles and symptom management
- Telemetry monitoring and EKG rhythm recognition
- Sterile technique and central line dressing change procedures
- Foley catheter insertion and maintenance
- IV insertion and difficult IV management (collaborate with SWAT RN)
- Familiarity with Cerner electronic medical record
- Basic ventilator adjunct knowledge (BiPAP/CPAP)
- Patient education, safety protocols, lifts and restraints, and wound care basics
