Roles & Responsibilities
- Monitor cardiac telemetry and interpret rhythms accurately to keep patients safe
- Titrate vasoactive and antiarrhythmic drips such as Heparin, Cardizem and Amiodarone per protocol
- Perform sterile procedures including Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes when competent
- Maintain sterile field and pass SIMs Lab skills during orientation to meet unit standards
- Provide bedside care for post-op cardiovascular surgery patients and respond to acute changes
- Document assessments and interventions promptly in Cerner
- Collaborate with Tele Techs, PCTs and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care
- Participate in lifts, restraints and wound care education to ensure safe, high-quality practice
Qualifications
- Active RN license (able to practice in the assignment region)
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience (cardiac/telemetry or acute care experience strongly preferred)
- Level 1 Trauma experience is required
- Demonstrated ability to interpret dysrhythmias; must pass dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance (two attempts allowed)
- Competence in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes or willingness to validate skills in SIMs Lab
- Driver's license and ability to drive within a 50-mile radius; travel teams must provide their own vehicle
- Willingness to comply with facility appearance and fit test requirements (natural hair color, no facial piercings, men clean-shaven for fit test)
Education
- Associate degree in Nursing or Nursing diploma accepted; BSN not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and ECG/dysrhythmia interpretation
- Drip titration and management of titratable infusions
- Foley catheter insertion and central line care
- Experience with Cerner electronic charting
- Familiarity with GE telemetry packs and off-unit Tele Tech workflows
- Experience or comfort caring for post-op cardiovascular surgery patients (CABG, MVR, STEMI, HF)
- Competence with CPAP, BiPAP and HFNC respiratory support
- Wound care, safe patient handling, lifts and restraints knowledge
