Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and triage observation patients rapidly and accurately, especially chest pain and post-procedure cases
• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and interpret dysrhythmias to guide timely interventions
• Administer and manage non-titration cardiac meds such as amiodarone, diltiazem, and labetalol safely
• Collaborate closely with PCTs, RT, pharmacy and hospitalists to provide coordinated patient care
• Document patient status and interventions in Cerner with clarity and clinical accuracy
• Float to telemetry or med/surg floors as needed and provide competent care across units
• Participate in competency checks including dysrhythmia assessment and a simulation lab on day one of orientation

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of practice
• Minimum 2 years recent experience (must have worked within the past 6 months)
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Strong telemetry experience and dysrhythmia interpretation skills
• Must pass UNA dysrhythmia exam (up to 2 attempts within 24-48 hours of offer) and pass day-1 sim lab
• Must not have held a permanent position at a CSH facility within the past 12 months (no exceptions)
• Must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility and provide a current driver's license at submission

Education

• Active RN license (required)
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry nursing
• Dysrhythmia recognition and response
• Critical thinking and rapid clinical decision-making
• Experience with Cerner charting system
• Post heart cath care and stable pre-CABG patient management
• Medication knowledge: amiodarone, diltiazem (Cardizem), labetalol
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and function as charge nurse when needed
• Comfort working in an observation unit that functions as an ER extension
