Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Night shifts, 12-hour nights: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM. Schedule varies to meet a 36 hours/week guarantee. Weekend requirement: 3 shifts in a 4-week period (notes also reference 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks). Holidays are worked as part of unit coverage rotation.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor neuro/epilepsy patients using keen clinical judgment and telemetry/EEG trend interpretation
- Manage and provide skilled nursing care including IV insertion, wound care, Foley catheter care, and central line dressing changes
- Respond rapidly to dysrhythmias and emergent changes, using ACLS/BLS protocols as required
- Complete SIMs Lab competencies and maintain sterile technique during procedures
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including RT, pharmacy and hospitalists to ensure continuity of care
- Float to Med-Surg/Telemetry as needed while maintaining high standards on the Neuro Acute unit
- Serve as a reliable team member with strong documentation in Cerner and adherence to unit ratios and policies
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for submission
- Minimum 2 years RN experience (Med-Surg/Telemetry experience preferred)
- Required certifications: BLS and ACLS prior to start
- Must have LEVEL 1 TRAUMA experience (explicit requirement)
- Demonstrated telemetry/dysrhythmia recognition skills and willingness to pass dysrhythmia exam (two attempts allowed)
- Competency in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes as validated in SIMs Lab (pass/fail)
- Comfort with EEG trend monitoring and neuro assessments; experience with epilepsy monitoring a plus
- Travel requirement: own vehicle for travel teams; ability to comply with facility dress/grooming policies (natural hair color, no facial piercings; men may need to clean shave for fit testing)
Education
- Active RN license (required)
- BSN preferred but not required
- Med-Surg or Telemetry certification preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong patient assessment and critical thinking skills specific to neuro and epilepsy populations
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition
- EEG trend monitoring and basic epilepsy care knowledge
- IV insertion and peripheral access troubleshooting; familiarity with SWAT RN escalation
- Wound care and sterile technique for line maintenance
- Ability to use Cerner for charting and documentation
- Comfort working with BiPAP/vent support and collaborating with respiratory therapy
- Effective communication, teamwork, and ability to detect subtle patient changes
