Roles & Responsibilities

• Interpret telemetry strips and document/sign at least once per shift to ensure cardiac events are recognized and managed promptly
• Provide high-quality nursing care for general medical, orthopedic and spinal surgical patients, and patients with CVA/TIA
• Manage respiratory needs including CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen and select breathing treatments
• Administer and monitor set-rate drips (e.g., diltiazem at set rate) and communicate changes to the care team
• Collaborate with remote telemetry/monitor techs and other interdisciplinary staff to coordinate safe patient care
• Perform accurate charting in Cerner and maintain continuity of care during shift handoffs
• Float to East Campus or PCU when needed, demonstrating adaptability and unit teamwork

Qualifications

• Active RN license in good standing (state licensure required)
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (MedSurg/Telemetry preferred)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Experience reading basic telemetry strips; ability to interpret and sign strips each shift
• Prior experience with general and orthopedic surgical patients, and CVA/TIA care strongly preferred
• Familiarity with Cerner charting recommended (only one day of unit orientation)
• Willingness to work night shifts and float as required

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma required
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and basic telemetry strip interpretation
• MedSurg nursing fundamentals and postoperative orthopedic/spinal care
• ACLS & BLS protocols and emergency response
• Competence with respiratory equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen
• EHR/charting proficiency (Cerner experience recommended)
• Strong assessment, prioritization and communication skills in acute care settings
• Ability to work effectively in a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
