Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform thorough neuro-focused patient assessments and detect subtle changes in condition
- Monitor telemetry and trend EEG data (24–48 hour trend EEGs) and respond to dysrhythmias quickly and accurately
- Maintain sterile technique during procedures and SIMs Lab-demonstrated skills such as Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
- Administer medications and chart accurately in Cerner, ensuring clear interdisciplinary communication
- Provide compassionate care to patients with epilepsy, brain tumors, TBI and other neuro diagnoses
- Collaborate with RT, pharmacy, hospitalists/intensivists, and the IV SWAT team to coordinate safe, efficient care
- Participate in unit education (lifts, restraints, wound care) and pass required competency exams and SIMs Lab
- Support unit flow through timely documentation, effective handoffs, and teamwork on both days and nights
Qualifications
- Active RN license (able to submit and wait if needed)
- Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience (Level 1 trauma experience required)
- BLS and ACLS required
- Strong telemetry/MedSurg experience with dysrhythmia recognition — candidate must pass dysrhythmia exam (2 attempts allowed)
- Competent in sterile technique, Foley catheter insertion, and central line dressing changes (SIMs Lab pass required)
- Comfortable using Cerner for charting
- Reliable transportation (travel teams must have their own vehicle) and adherence to 50-mile radius/driver’s license rule
- Willingness to follow unit appearance and fit-test requirements (natural hair color, no facial piercings; men clean-shaven for fit test)
Education
- Active RN license (required)
- BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment with strong critical thinking for neuro populations
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition
- EEG familiarity and ability to care for patients on trending EEG
- IV skills, including placement support and coordination with IV SWAT team
- Sterile field maintenance and procedural competency (Foley, central line care)
- MedSurg and Telemetry clinical skills
- Proficient documentation in Cerner and clear interdisciplinary communication
- Ability to work independently on nights and collaborate with on-site providers
