Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality direct nursing care to adult PCU/stepdown patients
• Monitor cardiac telemetry and respond to changes in rhythm and patient condition
• Administer medications and manage IV/Alaris and PCA pump therapies safely
• Use EPIC to document care accurately and communicate patient status with the team
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including charge nurses, case managers, PT/OT and dieticians to coordinate care
• Perform hourly rounding and prioritize patient responsiveness and satisfaction
• Support safe patient handling using mechanical lifts and established protocols
• Participate in unit-based problem solving to help address staffing and workflow challenges

Qualifications

• Current RN license eligible for practice in Nebraska (must submit license at time of submittal)
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care / stepdown or telemetry nursing experience
• Required certifications: ACLS and BLS (NIHSS also required per job posting)
• Comfort and competence with telemetry monitoring and acute cardiac care
• Experience with EPIC charting and Alaris IV pump operation; PCA pump familiarity a plus
• Valid driver’s license required at submittal to confirm radius eligibility
• Willingness to pass unit skills exam (open book) with minimum 90% during orientation
• Able to comply with facility policies (for example, no artificial nails in patient care areas)

Education

• Active RN license (required)
• ADN or BSN accepted; BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry rhythm interpretation and cardiac monitoring best practices
• PCU/stepdown workflows and nursing priorities for patients with CVA/TIA, respiratory compromise and neurological injuries
• Proficient use of EPIC for charting, orders and communication
• Safe medication administration including drips, insulin and Cardizem
• Alaris IV pump and PCA pump setup, troubleshooting and documentation
• Ability to perform hourly rounding and prioritize patient experience
• Teamwork, adaptability and float flexibility to medical-surgical areas as needed
