Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, evidence-based PCU/stepdown nursing to adults and geriatrics with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, and complex neurologic needs
• Titrate drips per unit protocols (e.g., Cardizem, beta blockers, seizure meds) while closely monitoring patient response
• Manage patient assignments at a 1:4-5 ratio, prioritizing patient safety and timely interventions
• Collaborate with the charge nurse, nurse aides, and interdisciplinary team to coordinate care and ensure smooth patient flow
• Perform continuous EEG monitoring assessment and escalate changes to the care team promptly
• Document accurately and efficiently in EPIC and complete required orientation competencies
• Support cross-coverage by floating to medical floors, ICU, or rehab as needed

Qualifications

• Current RN license eligible for Nebraska submission
• ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required at time of submittal
• Driver's license required to confirm radius eligibility
• Minimum 2 years of acute care or stepdown nursing experience
• Comfort with 12-hour shifts and fast-paced unit environments
• Experience with medication titration and managing complex cardiac/neuro patients
• Ability to pass orientation competency exam (90% required) and adhere to unit policies

Education

• Active RN license (BSN not required)
• Associate degree or diploma in nursing acceptable; BSN preferred but optional

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of PCU/stepdown protocols and cardiac/neuro patient care
• Familiarity with EPIC charting and electronic documentation workflows
• Skill in titrating drips and managing hemodynamic changes
• Experience with continuous EEG monitoring and interpreting clinical implications
• Excellent critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills
• Comfort supervising and working alongside nurse aides and patient care techs
