Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate, evidence-based PCU/stepdown nursing care for adults with cardiac, dialysis, respiratory, stroke and post-procedure needs
• Monitor and interpret telemetry strips and manage arterial lines to keep patients safe and stable
• Titrate drips (heparin, nitro, dopamine, Cardizem, amiodarone, insulin and others) per protocol and clinicians’ orders
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including respiratory therapists, techs and physicians to optimize outcomes
• Perform accurate, timely documentation in EPIC to ensure continuity of care and compliance
• Assist with bedside procedures and use of equipment (overhead lifts, vein finder, bladder scanner, high flow devices) as needed
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, medications and discharge plans with cultural sensitivity
• Support unit quality initiatives focused on patient experience, responsiveness and medication communication

Qualifications

• Active RN license (to practice in Nebraska) and ability to provide license at submittal
• Minimum 2 years of recent clinical nursing experience (PCU/Telemetry/Stepdown or similar)
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (current)
• Competency with arterial lines and telemetry interpretation required
• Comfort titrating drips and managing common cardiac/critical meds
• Proficiency with EPIC charting preferred
• Driver’s license required at submittal (radius rule applies — candidates outside 50 miles will be flagged)
• Must pass orientation pass/fail exam with a 90% score (open-book but required)

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or BSN — BSN preferred but not required
• BSN not required for submission

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong telemetry interpretation and cardiac monitoring skills
• Experience with arterial line management and titratable infusions
• Familiarity with high flow respiratory support and troubleshooting
• Exposure to dialysis and cardiac med-surg populations helpful
• Skilled documentation in EPIC and clear clinical communication
• Team-player mentality, flexibility to float to MedSurg/ICU and openness to feedback
• Cultural competence working with diverse populations (notably Hispanic and Somalian communities)
