Shift Type: Rotating day shifts including weekends and on-call coverage (mixed 8- and 12-hour day shifts). Typical shift start/end times include 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, 8:30 AM - 9:00 PM, and 10:00 AM - 6:30 PM. On-call window typically 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM. Schedule includes weekend coverage and occasional on-call nights (max 1-2 on-call nights per 6-week schedule). Guaranteed hours: 48 hours/week. Shift type: day/rotating.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert post-anesthesia care for phase 1 and phase 2 patients, including pediatric recovery
• Monitor and assess patient status continuously, responding promptly to changes in condition
• Manage ventilator settings and support patients from vented to nasal cannula as needed
• Administer medications and blood products safely, including pressor management when required
• Interpret cardiac strips and EKGs to guide critical care decisions in the unit
• Collaborate with surgical teams to receive and transition OR patients, including second-phase transfers
• Deliver compassionate, individualized care for pediatric and special-needs patients
• Support unit teamwork by assisting with patient transport, float coverage, and mentoring peers

Qualifications

• Active RN license eligible for North Dakota
• Minimum 3 years of RN experience preferred, with PACU or critical care experience strongly preferred
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
• Comfortable with pediatric recovery and phase 2 responsibilities
• Experience with EPIC or similar EMR for accurate charting
• Ability to respond to on-call duties within a 30-minute window
• Team-player attitude, kindness, flexibility to float to inpatient units when needed

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma required; BSN preferred but not required
• Completion of unit-specific orientation (approximately 12 hours) plus 2 department-specific PACU days and a buddy call on the first weekend

• Post-anesthesia care and phase 2 recovery workflows
• Patient monitoring and critical care/ICU recovery techniques
• Pediatric patient assessment and recovery skills
• Ventilator management and weaning to nasal cannula
• Pressor and hemodynamic support knowledge
• Blood product administration and transfusion safety
• EKG/strip interpretation and rapid clinical decision-making
• Familiarity with EPIC charting and documentation best practices
• Safe patient transport and handoff communication skills
