Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain a sterile field and surgical instruments, ensuring every case runs safely
• Assist surgeons during procedures — from total joints and ORIF to C-sections and laparoscopic cases
• Operate and support intraoperative equipment such as C-arm imaging and the MAKO robot when needed
• Adhere to infection control and fit-testing requirements, including mask fit protocols
• Document perioperative care accurately in Meditech and communicate effectively with the surgical team
• Participate in on-call rotations, providing dependable coverage for emergent and scheduled cases
• Complete unit-specific orientation (1-2 shifts) and engage in ongoing competency development

Qualifications

• Required: BLS certification and ND UAP credential (must meet North Dakota state requirements)
• Preferred: CST or NCCT certification strongly preferred
• Minimum 1 year of OR / surgical technologist experience
• Familiarity with total joint cases and cesarean sections (must-have skills)
• Comfort working with C-arm imaging; MAKO robot experience is a plus
• Ability to pass required fit testing (no facial hair that prevents mask fit or PAPR use)
• Willingness to participate in weeknight, weekend and holiday on-call rotations as outlined

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required; formal Surgical Technologist training/certification preferred (CST or NCCT preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong sterile technique and perioperative workflow knowledge
• Experience with adult, pediatric, geriatric and obstetric surgical populations
• Familiarity with Meditech charting and perioperative documentation
• Hands-on knowledge of orthopedic cases (total joints, arthroscopy) and OB/GYN procedures (C-sections)
• Comfort using surgical energy devices (Ligasure, Harmonic) and C-arm imaging
• Team-oriented communication, adaptability for self-scheduling and call coverage
