Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain sterile fields and instrumentation for a high-volume OR with up to 15 cases per day
• Assist surgeons during procedures, including DaVinci robotic cases and heavy orthopedic surgeries
• Safely handle, pass, and track instruments and implants for general, ortho, spine, vascular, gyn, urology, plastics, and podiatry cases
• Document case details and chart in Cerner accurately and efficiently
• Respond to call assignments within a 30-minute window and provide reliable coverage when scheduled
• Collaborate with charge nurses, team leads, and multidisciplinary staff to ensure smooth patient flow
• Participate in floor-specific orientation (typically two shifts) and ongoing unit training
• Float to the GI lab when required, if GI experience is available

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of operating room surgical tech experience, with ortho/general case experience emphasized
• Hands-on DaVinci robotic surgery experience is mandatory
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Ability to work in a union environment and adapt to variable schedules
• Travel experience preferred and must be able to respond to call within 30 minutes

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA required
• BLS certification required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of sterile technique, instrumentation, and implant handling
• Familiarity with robotic-assisted surgery workflows (DaVinci)
• Experience with orthopedic procedures including total joints and heavy ortho
• Competence with Cerner charting and documentation
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and situational awareness in fast-paced OR settings
• Ability to prioritize tasks, maintain composure on call, and support a 1:1 staffing ratio
