Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, high-quality medical-surgical nursing care to post-op, sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, diabetes and other acute patients
• Perform thorough patient assessments and document care accurately in Cerner
• Maintain and uphold sterile technique during Foley catheter insertions and central line dressing changes
• Titrate heparin drips per protocol and monitor patient response
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including RT and house supervisors, to coordinate patient care
• Safely assist with lifts, restraints, and wound care following facility policies
• Float to other med/surg or telemetry units as needed and serve as a reliable traveler resource
• Complete SIMs Lab competencies and pass required skills checks during orientation

Qualifications

• Active RN license (state or compact RN licensure applicable to assignment)
• Minimum 2 years recent Med/Surg experience with Level 1 trauma experience required; no first-time travelers
• Current BLS certification required
• Demonstrated competency with Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (SIMs Lab required)
• Experience with Cerner charting system preferred
• Ability to titrate heparin drips
• Must pass DYS exam prior to accepting assignment (2 attempts allowed)
• Travelers must have their own reliable vehicle; facility-specific appearance and fit-test requirements apply (natural hair color, no facial piercings; men clean-shaven for fit test)

Education

• Active RN license required
• BLS required
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Sterile technique and maintaining a sterile field
• IV and central line care and dressing changes
• Foley catheter insertion and catheter management
• Patient assessment and med-surgical nursing interventions
• Heparin titration and familiarity with drip management
• Experience with telemetry monitoring (preferred) and willingness to float
• Wound care, patient lifts/transfers, and use of restraints per policy
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic charting
