Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour day shifts (Days), 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM, rotating schedule including weekends (4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks; weekend days are Saturday and Sunday) — guaranteed 36 hours/week

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality medical-surgical nursing care for post-op and acutely ill patients using sound assessment and intervention skills
- Perform and demonstrate competence in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes while maintaining strict sterile technique
- Titrate heparin drips safely and follow unit protocols for medication administration
- Document patient care accurately in Cerner to ensure continuity and regulatory compliance
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including RT, charge RN, and house supervisors to coordinate patient care
- Float to other med/surg and telemetry units as needed while maintaining professional flexibility and patient safety
- Participate in SIMs lab, lifts/restraints, and wound care education to ensure unit competency standards are met
- Support unit workflow as a resource RN when CNAs/PCTs are not assigned, ensuring patient needs are met
Qualifications
- Active RN license in the state of practice
- Minimum 2 years recent med/surg nursing experience
- Level 1 trauma experience is required (must have prior Level 1 trauma clinical exposure)
- Travel nurse experience required; no first-time travelers
- BLS certification required prior to start
- Competence with Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing change or willingness to complete and pass SIMs lab
- Ability to titrate heparin drips
- Comfort charting in Cerner
- Must pass DYS exam prior to accepting assignment (two attempts allowed)
- Travel teams must have their own vehicle
- Facility-specific appearance rules apply: natural hair color, no facial piercings, and men must be clean shaven for fit testing
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- BSN preferred but not required
- BLS certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong med/surg nursing assessment and prioritization
- Sterile technique and infection prevention best practices
- Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing change skills
- Heparin titration experience
- Familiarity with Cerner electronic health record
- Telemetry monitoring skills and basic rhythm recognition (preferred)
- Wound care and post-op patient management
- Charge nurse and resource RN experience (preferred) and ability to coordinate care
