Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality MedSurg bedside nursing care for a 30-bed unit, including post-operative and bariatric patients
• Perform focused assessments and interventions for patients after total joint, spinal, abdominal and urologic surgeries
• Manage wound care and common drains (Hemovac/Jackson-Pratt) and support colostomy care
• Facilitate early ambulation and recovery-oriented patient education to improve outcomes
• Safely administer and monitor PCA pumps, TPN, and occasional heparin drips per unit protocol
• Collaborate with monitor/telemetry techs, RT, techs and the charge nurse to coordinate patient care
• Deliver bedside shift report and communicate clear, compassionate handoffs
• Float to medical and telemetry areas when needed and assist with patient transitions

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to work in North Dakota)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (MedSurg experience strongly preferred)
• Comfortable with 12-hour night shifts and every-other-weekend scheduling
• Experience with post-operative care, early ambulation and surgical patients preferred
• Familiarity with EPIC charting preferred
• Willingness to float to medical and telemetry areas
• Able to meet RTO requirement (able to start within 7 days of contract acceptance for this 13-week assignment) and not currently employed PRN/FT/PT with CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity facilities

Education

• Active RN license required
• BSN not required (BSN Required: No)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong MedSurg assessment and clinical judgment skills
• Experience with drain and wound care (Hemovac, JP), colostomy care, and bariatric considerations
• Comfort with PCA pumps, TPN administration, and occasional heparin drips
• Telemetry exposure and ability to work alongside remote monitor techs
• Effective bedside reporting and patient/family education skills
• Teamwork, communication, and adaptability in a close-knit unit culture
• Proficiency with EPIC or similar electronic charting systems
