Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered care on a 28-bed Med Surg/Ortho unit with overflow capacity
• Administer medications and IV infusions safely and accurately
• Perform thorough assessments and document care in EPIC
• Execute hourly rounding and conduct bedside shift reports to ensure continuity of care
• Care for a diverse caseload including post-op ortho patients, COPD, CHF, sepsis, dementia, and addiction-related needs
• Collaborate with charge nurses, monitor techs, and patient care techs to maintain safe nurse-to-patient ratios
• Float to PCU and behavioral health (McDermott) when needed, adapting to different patient needs
• Follow unit policies including fingernail/artificial nail restrictions and facility radius/employment rules

Qualifications

• Current RN license eligible for submission in IA
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of RN clinical experience (Med-Surg or Orthopedics preferred)
• Comfortable with IV therapy, medication administration, and post-op ortho care
• Experience with EPIC charting or willingness to train quickly
• Valid driver’s license at time of submittal and residence within a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Ability to pass an orientation skills exam with a 90% score (open-book; resources provided) or meet termination criteria
• Flexible, self-directed attitude and willingness to float as needed

Education

• Active RN license (required)
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong med-surg and orthopedic nursing fundamentals
• IV therapy and IV infusion management
• Familiarity with telemetry/monitoring concepts
• Comfort titrating set-rate drips like heparin and IV antibiotics when appropriate
• Effective bedside shift reporting and hourly rounding practices
• Basic leadership awareness for working with charge nurses and techs
• Ability to work with patients experiencing dementia, mental health, and addiction issues
• Good clinical judgment and strong communication skills
