Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, compassionate nursing care to MedSurg Neuro patients including stroke and post-neurosurgery cases
• Assess, monitor and document patient status using EPIC and communicate changes to the care team
• Safely titrate drips including heparin, lidocaine and ketamine per unit protocols
• Manage PCA pump therapies and monitor effectiveness and safety
• Perform hourly rounding and ensure responsiveness to patient needs
• Effectively manage admissions, discharges and multiple patient transitions in a busy MedSurg environment
• Collaborate with charge nurses, tele/monitor techs, and patient care techs to maintain safe nurse:patient ratios
• Use mechanical lifts and safe patient handling techniques when required
• Deliver culturally competent care for diverse populations including Spanish, Karen and Burmese speakers

Qualifications

• Active RN (Registered Nurse) license eligible for submission
• Minimum 2 years of recent nursing experience (MedSurg/Telemetry experience strongly preferred)
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• NIHSS certification required
• Driver's license required at time of submittal (radius rule applies: candidates outside 50 miles must meet specific criteria)
• Ability to pass orientation open-book skills exam with a 90% score (required to continue on assignment)
• Travel experience preferred but strong local candidates will be considered
• No active license or background hits

Education

• Active RN license (required)
• BSN not required (associate degree or diploma acceptable); BSN may be preferred by some candidates

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient charting in EPIC
• Telemetry awareness and ability to recognize basic dysrhythmias
• Skill with drip titration (heparin, lidocaine, ketamine) and PCA pump management
• Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making
• Familiarity with MedSurg and neuro patient populations including stroke care and post-op neurosurgery
• Comfort using mechanical lifts and safe patient-handling equipment
• Cultural competency and ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations
