Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour night shifts, 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM, scheduled across the week (typically 3 nights/week to meet the 36-hour guarantee), includes every-other-weekend coverage and 2-3 holiday shifts between Thanksgiving and New Year's (night)

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered care for MedSurg Neuro patients including stroke care and post-neurosurgery recovery
- Perform thorough patient assessments and maintain accurate, timely documentation in EPIC
- Safely titrate IV drips (heparin, lidocaine, ketamine) and manage PCA pump therapies per unit protocols
- Practice hourly rounding and proactive responsiveness to patient needs to improve outcomes and satisfaction
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and float to other MedSurg areas as needed
- Manage daily unit flow—admissions, discharges, and transfers—while prioritizing safety and continuity of care
- Use mechanical lifts and safe patient handling techniques to protect patients and staff
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity when serving patients from diverse backgrounds (Spanish, Karen, Burmese)
Qualifications
- Active RN license (state licensure required for submission)
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required prior to or at start
- Driver's license required at submittal (used to confirm radius rule eligibility)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience (MedSurg/Telemetry experience preferred)
- Travel experience preferred but strong local candidates will be considered
- Must pass an open-book orientation skills exam with a 90% score (pass/fail requirement)
- Must comply with facility radius rule (50-mile rule) and not be FT/PT/PRN with CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity facilities
Education
- Active RN license required (BSN not required; ADN or diploma accepted)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong MedSurg and Neuro/Stroke care knowledge including NIHSS competency
- Telemetry awareness and ability to interpret cardiac monitoring trends
- Proficient in EPIC charting and electronic documentation workflows
- Skill with IV medication titration and PCA pump management
- Excellent patient assessment, prioritization, and time-management skills for busy med-surg volumes
- Teamwork, communication, and cultural competence to serve diverse patient populations
- Safe mechanical lift operation and patient handling
