Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality acute MedSurg and neuro-rehab nursing care for a primarily neuro population (TBI, CVA, brain tumor, post-transplant patients)
• Perform and document patient assessments, IV therapy, wound care, Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes per facility standards
• Maintain sterile field during procedures and complete SIMs Lab competency checks on day 1 of orientation
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team during daily rounds and family-centered care planning
• Manage a patient assignment per unit ratios (RN 1:6) and ensure safe handoffs and continuity of care
• Participate in lifts/restraints education and safe patient handling practices
• Recognize and respond to dysrhythmias (must pass dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance)
• Support quality improvement initiatives and follow Cerner documentation practices

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for submission
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience with strong MedSurg background
• Required: Level 1 Trauma experience
• Required certifications: BLS and FIM (for RN and Tech as noted)
• Competency in IV therapy, Foley catheter insertion, central line care and wound care
• Comfortable with neuro-rehab diagnoses (TBI, CVA, brain tumor) and family-centered communication
• Must pass facility-required dysrhythmia exam (2 attempts allowed) and SIMs Lab competency
• Valid driver’s license and ability to comply with 50-mile radius rule
• Facility appearance standards apply (natural hair color, no facial piercings; men clean-shaven for fit test)

Education

• Active RN license (required)
• BSN not required (facility indicates BSN Required: ---)

• Acute MedSurg nursing and neuro rehab knowledge
• Sterile technique and procedure competency
• Dysrhythmia recognition and cardiac monitoring awareness
• IV therapy, central line dressing changes, Foley catheter skills
• Wound care and post-operative patient management
• Proficiency with Cerner EMR documentation
• Strong verbal communication and family partnership skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with therapy teams and rehab physicians
