Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor adult and pediatric MedSurg patients, recognizing changes in condition and intervening promptly
• Administer medications and IV therapies safely and accurately following hospital protocols
• Perform thorough patient assessments and document findings in Cerner
• Coordinate patient care with interdisciplinary teams including RT and pharmacy to ensure safe transitions
• Serve as a professional team member on a fast-paced unit, supporting efficient throughput and short average lengths of stay
• Follow infection control and patient safety guidelines while providing compassionate, patient-centered care
• Be prepared to float to Telemetry or OB when needed (if experienced), expanding your clinical impact
• Participate in required unit orientation and contribute to a positive team environment

Qualifications

• Active RN license (able to submit)
• Minimum 2 years of recent MedSurg experience; 2-3 years in specialty preferred
• BLS required; PALS preferred
• Comfortable with 1:5 patient ratios on a busy MedSurg unit
• Experience with Cerner or other electronic medical records preferred
• Ability to work 12-hour night shifts and meet every other weekend requirement
• Willingness to float to Telemetry or OB if experienced and requested

Education

• ADN or BSN (BSN not required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong MedSurg clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
• Medication administration and IV therapy competence
• Familiarity with Cerner charting and documentation workflows
• Basic telemetry exposure is a plus (nurses are not required to interpret strips)
• Comfort managing common MedSurg diagnoses: COPD, post-op care, GI bleeds, OBGYN surgeries, and ortho
• Effective communication and teamwork in a fast-paced acute care environment
