Shift Type: Night shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, 12-hour shifts; rotating schedule with every-other-weekend requirement and holiday rotation; travelers float between MedSurg units (EOW first to float)

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, compassionate MedSurg nursing care for patients on a 55-bed MedSurg unit
• Monitor telemetry and interpret EKG strips to identify patient changes quickly
• Administer medications, vaccinations (including COVID-19 vaccination as required), and treatments safely
• Collaborate with physicians, RT, pharmacy, IV/PICC team and interdisciplinary staff to coordinate patient care
• Document patient assessments and interventions accurately in Cerner
• Supervise and work alongside PCTs to maintain safe patient ratios and efficient workflow
• Float between MedSurg units as needed while maintaining continuity of care
• Participate in weekend and holiday rotations to support the unit

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in California (required)
• Minimum 2 years of solid MedSurg experience (required for night shift; day shift acceptable with 2 years as well)
• BLS certification (required)
• COVID-19 vaccination required
• Comfortable reading EKG strips and working with telemetry patients
• Experience with Cerner or other EMR charting systems
• Ability to float between units and work collaboratively with PCTs
• IV/PICC familiarity preferred

Education

• Nursing diploma, ADN, or BSN (BSN not required)
• Completion of required unit orientation (2 orientation shifts total)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong MedSurg clinical knowledge and patient assessment skills
• Telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation
• Proficiency with Cerner EMR documentation
• Medication administration and infection control practices
• Familiarity with working alongside IV/PICC teams, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy
• Ability to prioritize in a 5:1 patient ratio environment and adapt on the fly
