Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care for patients in a 4-bed L&D and 6-bed postpartum unit
• Monitor fetal status using EFM and interpret strips confidently, escalating concerns to OB/Neonatology as needed
• Titrate IV drips (including Pitocin and cardiac drips) and manage medication administration safely
• Document thoroughly and accurately in EPIC to ensure continuity of care and clear communication
• Collaborate with anesthesia, RT, OB/Neonatology (on-call), and interdisciplinary teams to manage emergent situations
• Float to MedSurg/Pediatrics when OB volume is low and assist as a team player when needed
• Serve as a patient and family educator — explain procedures, postpartal care, and discharge planning with empathy
• Support unit flow by assisting the charge nurse when necessary and participating in call/standby duties

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to work in Minnesota or appropriate compact privileges)
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP (current)
• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience; must have L&D experience plus MedSurg and/or Pediatrics experience
• Experience with fetal monitoring/EFM and ability to read strips
• Comfort with IV drip titration and common OB medications
• Experience charting in EPIC preferred
• Ability to function in a critical access environment and float between units as needed
• Good communication skills, approachability, and motivation to work in a collaborative team

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma accepted; BSN not required
• Active RN licensure required

Knowledge & Skills

• Labor and Delivery and postpartum nursing best practices
• Fetal monitoring and EFM interpretation (GE EFM systems)
• Telemetry monitoring experience (Phillips monitors) and strip reading
• EPIC electronic charting proficiency
• IV drip titration and infusion management
• Familiarity with RT equipment troubleshooting (Vents, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow, Airvo)
• Understanding of AWHONN guidelines and OB staffing ratios
• Ability to respond to emergent C-section/OR situations and collaborate with on-call anesthesia
