Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert Labor & Delivery and couplet care from admission through postpartum discharge, managing high-risk and routine cases with confidence
- Circulate during C-sections and coordinate the OR team to ensure maternal safety and smooth surgical flow
- Perform neonatal resuscitation (NRP role/ baby catcher) when assigned and collaborate with NICU/neonatology as needed
- Monitor and interpret fetal heart tracings using GE Corometrics/Fetalink and escalate changes promptly
- Titrate Pitocin and other drips safely while documenting responses and maintaining maternal-fetal stability
- Float to other Sacramento facilities when needed and adapt quickly to different unit workflows
- Provide bedside report, thorough documentation in Cerner, and ensure continuity of care during shift handoffs
- Serve as break relief or charge support when assigned, assisting with unit flow and staff coordination
Qualifications
- Active RN license eligible for practice in California (license to submit required)
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience or equivalent acute OB experience
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Advanced Fetal Monitoring; AWHONN-Advanced preferred
- STABLE certification preferred
- Comfortable circulating C-sections and functioning in all aspects of LDRP
- Ability to titrate drips (Pitocin experience highly preferred)
- Experience reading EKG strips on postpartum moms (PACU) and basic maternal cardiac interpretation
- Willingness to float to other Sacramento-area facilities and respond to call within 30 minutes
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma required
- BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong fetal monitoring skills and interpretation of CTGs using GE Corometrics and Fetalink surveillance
- Proficiency with Cerner electronic charting and documentation workflows
- Skill in neonatal resuscitation procedures and newborn stabilization (NRP)
- Ability to manage C-section circulation and coordinate perioperative OB care
- Competence titrating infusion drips and monitoring maternal responses
- Excellent communication for bedside report and interdisciplinary collaboration (OB hospitalists, anesthesia, neonatology)
- Comfort working in a high-risk, fast-paced family birthing center with variable ratios
