Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, high-acuity critical care to adult and pediatric patients (>15 years)
- Perform thorough patient assessments and continuous monitoring, including telemetry strip interpretation
- Safely titrate vasopressors, sedatives, paralytics and other drips per protocol
- Manage ventilators and assist respiratory therapy as needed from nasal cannula through full ventilatory support
- Respond effectively to rapid response teams and codes as a core member of the emergency response
- Collaborate with physicians, residents, fellows and interdisciplinary team members to create and execute care plans
- Document care accurately and efficiently in EPIC to ensure continuity and quality of care
- Maintain unit standards including infection control (no artificial nails) and professional appearance
Qualifications
- Active RN license in the state of practice (able to submit with license)
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (ICU/Med-Surg preferred)
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS at time of submission
- Comfortable with 12-hour shifts and rotating schedules; able to meet every other weekend requirement
- Valid driver’s license required at time of submittal to confirm radius eligibility
- Willing to complete an open-book orientation exam and achieve required pass score (90%)
- Able to float to other inpatient units (excluding Maternity/NICU) as needed
Education
- Current RN license (state of practice). BSN preferred but not required.
Knowledge & Skills
- Critical care nursing fundamentals and strong patient assessment skills
- Telemetry monitoring and ECG interpretation (Draeger systems)
- Medication/drip titration and infusion pump management
- Ventilator management and respiratory support troubleshooting
- Familiarity with EPIC charting and accurate electronic documentation
- Comfortable with advanced devices and therapies (CRRT, Swans, EV-1000, IABP/Impella exposure is a plus)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced tertiary Level 1 trauma environment and collaborate well under pressure
