Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality critical care nursing for adult ICU patients, managing complex conditions like trauma, cardiac events, sepsis, stroke, and respiratory distress
• Continuously monitor and interpret telemetry and ECG strips using GE monitors and document findings accurately
• Safely titrate and manage drips including cardiac infusions, insulin, and sedation per unit protocols
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (RTs, physicians, techs) to coordinate care and escalate changes in patient status
• Troubleshoot ventilator, High Flow, CPAP and BiPAP issues and work with Respiratory Therapy for advanced interventions
• Mentor and work alongside healthcare support staff and nurse aides to ensure safe patient ratios and 1:1 sitter coverage when needed
• Maintain meticulous documentation, participate in orientation and complete required competencies and unit-specific training

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska (or compact RN licensure where applicable)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS certification required
• Driver's license required at time of submittal (used to confirm 50-mile radius eligibility)
• ICU experience with telemetry and ECG interpretation; experience titrating drips is required
• Comfortable troubleshooting vents and managing patients on High Flow/CPAP/BiPAP
• Ability to meet facility policies (including fingernail/artificial nail policy) and pass orientation competency exam (90% required)
• Willingness to work rotating 12-hour shifts, every-other weekend, and assigned holiday shifts during the contract
• Not currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care nursing principles and adult ICU management
• Telemetry monitoring and ECG interpretation (GE monitors)
• Medication and drip titration protocols (cardiac drips, insulin, sedation)
• Patient assessment, hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation
• Familiarity with ventilators, High Flow, CPAP and BiPAP troubleshooting
• Familiarity with trauma, cardiac, stroke, sepsis, renal failure, and overdose care
• Strong documentation, communication, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
