Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, evidence-based ICU nursing care for critically ill adults in an 8-bed unit
- Manage ventilators, drips, and complex IV medication administration safely and confidently
- Continuously monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and telemetry strips; complete a 15-minute EKG competency assessment during orientation
- Collaborate closely with physicians, respiratory therapists (RT 24/7), and the interdisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
- Serve as charge/shift leader on day shifts when assigned (no primary patient assignment) and support night shift leadership as needed
- Float to telemetry or the ER as required, maintaining clinical competence across units
- Participate in unit orientation (one shift) and preceptor-supported onboarding for floated assignments
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure (must be active and in good standing)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU/critical care nursing experience (required)
- Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications (required)
- Demonstrated experience with ventilator management and IV medication/drip administration
- Comfortable with telemetry/EKG interpretation and Philips monitor systems
- Experience with Cerner EMR (documenting and navigating order sets)
- Travel experience is preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong critical care and ICU nursing foundations (sepsis, respiratory failure, CHF, alcohol withdrawal care)
- Proficiency in ventilator settings, respiratory support, and arterial blood gas interpretation
- Ability to interpret cardiac monitoring and recognize arrhythmias quickly
- Skilled in safe IV med preparation/administration and titration of drips
- Familiarity with Cerner electronic medical records and documentation best practices
- Comfortable working independently in a small unit with high-acuity patients and limited nurse aide support
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills for collaboration with hospitalists/intensivists and ancillary services
