Shift Type: Nights, 12-hour shifts (specific clock-in/out times not specified by posting). Night weekends are Friday-Saturday; schedule is self-scheduled with manager balancing, minimum every-other-weekend and 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule. Guaranteed 36 hours/week. Floating between SICU, MICU/Cardiac and overflow ICUs as needed.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert critical care nursing for high-acuity patients in surgical, trauma/neuro, and cardiac ICUs
• Safely manage ventilators and advanced respiratory equipment (Dreager, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett, V60, Airvo)
• Titrate vasoactive and sedative drips (e.g., levophed, vasopressin, propofol, precedex) according to protocols
• Interpret ECG/monitor strips independently and act on dysrhythmias (UNA Dysrhythmia exam required pre-acceptance)
• Serve as charge nurse when assigned (charge nurses do not take patients)
• Participate in orientation simulation lab (pass/fail) and skills validation for trauma, neuro and specialty devices
• Collaborate with 24/7 intensivists, RTs and multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
• Float to telemetry as needed and maintain safe nurse:patient ratios (1:2 or 1:1)

Qualifications

• Active RN license (able to work in Arizona) — license submission required
• Minimum 3 years recent ICU experience (no exceptions) with at least 2 years in the ICU
• Experience in either Neuro ICU or Cardiovascular (CV) ICU required
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications; NIHSS required
• Successful UNA Dysrhythmia exam 24–48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
• Ability to pass a simulation lab on Day 1 of orientation
• Comfort titrating a wide range of drips and managing advanced cardiac devices (IABP, Impella, ECMO familiarity preferred)
• Willingness to float between units and work nights/weekends as scheduled

Education

• Active RN license required
• BSN preferred but not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Critical care nursing principles and high-acuity assessment
• Ventilator management and ARDS/ARDS protocols
• ECG/strip interpretation and dysrhythmia recognition
• Drip titration for sedatives, analgesics, paralytics and vasoactives
• Trauma and neurosurgical post-op care (crani, ex-lap, neuro procedures)
• Cardiac ICU care including post-op CABG, valve work, TAVR recovery
• Familiarity with ECMO, CRRT, IABP, Impella and advanced hemodynamic support
• Experience with Cerner charting and GE monitors
• Strong teamwork, communication, and charge nurse leadership skills
