Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-acuity critical care for ICU patients, including trauma, neuro-stroke, and head injury cases
- Manage ventilators (Hamilton) and perform ventilator checks and titration according to unit protocols
- Perform and monitor ICP management and ventriculostomy care with strict adherence to safety standards
- Interpret telemetry and dysrhythmias and respond rapidly using ACLS protocols when indicated
- Collaborate closely with hospitalists, intensivists, RT, pharmacy, and interdisciplinary team members 24/7
- Document patient care clearly and accurately in Cerner EMR
- Act as a patient advocate, provide family education, and support post-TPA care when required
- Maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
Qualifications
- Active RN license (California or compact RN eligible) required
- Minimum 2 years of specialty ICU/critical care experience; 2-3 years preferred
- Required certifications: ACLS and BLS; NIHSS required; PALS preferred
- Must have hands-on experience with ICP monitoring and ventriculostomies OR experience caring for post-TPA patients
- Experience with ventilator management (Hamilton ventilators) and telemetry required
- Previous travel experience preferred; larger fast-paced facility experience strongly desired
- COVID vaccination (per facility policy) and ability to pass a proctored dysrhythmia test on day one
- Strong clinical judgment, ability to work under pressure, and excellent communication skills
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- BSN preferred but not required; active RN license required
Knowledge & Skills
- Critical care and ICU nursing best practices
- ICP monitoring and ventriculostomy care
- Mechanical ventilation management, specifically Hamilton ventilators
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
- ACLS/BLS protocols and emergency response
- Charting and workflow in Cerner EMR
- Trauma and neuro-stroke patient care
- Interdisciplinary collaboration with RT, pharmacy, and house intensivists
