Shift Type: Primarily night 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM; schedule varies by rotation and includes weekend coverage (approximately 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks). May include standby shifts and required floating to Tele and other ICU floors.
Hours per Week: 36
Candidate Pay Rate: $60 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality critical care nursing in a 32-bed Neuro ICU, managing a 1:2 patient ratio
- Perform focused neuro assessments and manage intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring with confidence
- Manage external ventricular drains (EVDs) and provide meticulous care for neurosurgical patients
- Operate and manage ventilators and work closely with respiratory therapy for ventilator-dependent patients
- Maintain sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; demonstrate competency in SIMs Lab
- Document care accurately and efficiently in Cerner to ensure clear communication across the care team
- Collaborate with physicians, RT, pharmacy and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
- Float to Tele/Telemetry units when needed and safely manage higher patient loads on telefloors
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (able to submit license; employer willing to wait for issuance)
- Required certifications: BLS and ACLS
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a large (450+ bed) facility
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Must have EVD experience and strong neuro assessment/ICP monitoring skills
- 3-6 months travel nursing experience preferred/required for travel candidates
- Ability to pass required competency exams (DYS exam prior to acceptance and SIMs Lab pass/fail on orientation)
- Travel team must have their own vehicle; candidates must meet facility appearance/fit-test rules (natural hair color, no facial piercings, men clean shaven for fit test)
Education
- Active RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS and ACLS
Knowledge & Skills
- Neuro ICU clinical expertise including neuro assessments and ICP management
- EVD care and external ventricular drain management
- Ventilator management and working knowledge of respiratory therapy collaboration
- Experience with Cerner electronic medical record
- Foley catheter insertion and central line care/sterile technique
- Telemetry and Phillips monitor familiarity
- Wound care, patient lifts, restraints and safe patient handling
- Ability to float between ICU and Telemetry units and manage changing patient acuity
