Registered Nurse - ICU

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Nights, 12-hour shifts (night schedule). Every-other-weekend (EOW) rotation; guaranteed 36 hours per week. Night shift nurses are first to float to MedSurg/Tele as needed. (Specific facility start/end times not provided.)

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality critical care to ICU and ICU-CV Recovery patients using evidence-based practice
- Monitor and interpret telemetry and EKG strips, and respond to changes in rhythm or status quickly
- Manage ventilator-supported patients in collaboration with respiratory therapy
- Titrate and manage vasoactive drips and other cardiac medications safely and accurately
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and communicate clearly with physicians, pharmacists, and the care team
- Lead or support rapid response events and coordinate care during high-acuity situations
- Float to assigned MedSurg/Tele units as needed and maintain continuity of care
- Document thoroughly and accurately in Cerner to ensure safe handoffs and compliance
Qualifications
- Active RN license (eligible to practice in California)
- Minimum 2 years of recent critical care nursing experience (ICU/ED/PICU) — no first-time travelers
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS required
- Comfortable with telemetry monitoring, EKG interpretation, ventilator care, and vasoactive drip management
- Experience with Cerner EMR required
- Willingness to float to MedSurg/Telemetry units and work every-other-weekend rotations
- Ability to complete orientation requirements (includes 2 unit shifts and East/West tower orientation)
Education
- Active RN license required (California)
- BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong EKG interpretation and telemetry monitoring skills
- Ventilator management knowledge and ability to collaborate with RT
- Familiarity with vasoactive drips and conscious sedation protocols
- Experience with Spacelabs monitoring and Omnicell systems a plus
- Exposure to advanced therapies (IABP, CRRT, ICP, TAVR, Impella) is beneficial
- Excellent critical thinking, prioritization, and rapid response capabilities
- Effective interdisciplinary communication and charting in Cerner
