Roles & Responsibilities
- Triage and rapidly assess incoming ER patients to prioritize lifesaving care
- Provide acute care for high-acuity diagnoses including STEMI, stroke, sepsis and DKA
- Monitor cardiac telemetry and respond to arrhythmias and STEMI activations
- Collaborate with physicians, mid-level providers, respiratory therapy and pharmacy for coordinated care
- Document timely and accurate patient care in Cerner PowerChart
- Support fast track and main ER workflows — assist with disposition planning and patient throughput
- Perform emergency interventions, assist with procedures, and escalate concerns when necessary
- Mentor and coordinate with ER techs and other support staff to maintain safe patient ratios
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state or compact RN license where allowed
- Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience (ER/acute care preferred)
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS
- Experience with Cerner PowerChart strongly preferred
- Comfortable with telemetry monitoring and basic ventilator familiarity (RT supports ventilator management)
- Able to work 12-hour night shifts, weekends (EOW), and holiday rotations
- Trauma experience preferred; first-time travelers are welcome
Education
- Active RN license required; BSN not required (ADN/diploma acceptable)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong emergency nursing and triage skills
- Proficiency in cardiac/STEMI recognition and stroke protocols
- Sepsis and DKA management experience
- Telemetry interpretation and continuous monitoring skills (GE monitors)
- Familiarity with Cerner charting and documentation best practices
- Excellent communication, rapid critical thinking, and teamwork in a fast-paced ED
- Ability to prioritize across multiple critically ill patients and maintain situational awareness
