Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver expert emergency and trauma nursing care for critically injured patients in a Level I trauma setting
- Perform and document assessments, interventions, and critical procedures (Foley insertion, sterile central line dressing care, port-a-cath procedures as applicable)
- Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry/Phillips monitor strips and collaborate with the team for timely interventions
- Work collaboratively with MDs, midlevels, RT, pharmacy and IV teams to coordinate rapid, high-acuity care
- Maintain sterile field and complete required SIMs lab competencies with precision
- Triage, prioritize, and manage a diverse patient population including trauma, burns and pediatric transfers
- Serve as a flexible team member who can float between campuses and adapt to mid-shift deployment when needed
Qualifications
- Active RN license (able to submit if needed; employer will wait per posting)
- Minimum 2 years ER experience; MUST have at least 1 year of Trauma Level I experience (candidates with 8+ months will be screened)
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS (ENPC may not replace PALS)
- Comfortable with 12-hour night shifts and a 1:4 patient ratio
- Competent with Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (SIMs lab pass/fail required)
- Ability to read cardiac strips on Phillips monitors and work with Cerner EMR
- Willingness to follow facility appearance and fit-test policies (natural hair color, no facial piercings; men clean shaven for fit test)
- Must pass DYS exam prior to accepting assignment (two attempts allowed)
Education
- Current RN license (BSN preferred but not required)
- No BSN required per job posting; clinical orientation and skills verification provided
Knowledge & Skills
- Advanced trauma assessment and stabilization in a high-volume Level I ER
- Emergency/trauma procedures, sterile technique and wound care
- Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical records
- Cardiac rhythm recognition and telemetry monitoring (Phillips)
- Experience with SIMs lab-style competency training and passing practical skills
- Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams including RT, pharmacy, IV teams and hospitalists/intensivists
