Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour night shifts (primary nights): 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM, every other weekend (EOW); typically 3 shifts/week (36 hours guaranteed). Note: unit also staffs 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM) and additional staggered coverage such as 9:00 AM - 9:30 PM, 11:00 AM - 11:30 PM, 1:00 PM - 1:00 AM and 4:00 PM - 4:00 AM depending on unit needs.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality emergency nursing care for a high-volume ER (220-250 visits/day), with an emphasis on pediatric and acute presentations
- Rapidly triage and prioritize patients using strong clinical judgment to ensure timely care
- Manage telemetry and ventilator-supported patients, collaborating closely with respiratory therapy and ED physicians
- Deliver pediatric emergency interventions and stabilization when needed, using PALS and other critical care protocols
- Lead and coordinate care during codes, trauma activations, and disaster or Code Silver events with calm situational awareness
- Document accurately in Cerner PowerChart and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including phlebotomy, pharmacy, and paramedics
- Serve as a patient advocate for underserved and behavioral health populations while maintaining safety and de-escalation techniques
- Support unit flow including fast track, internal holding, and collaboration with monitoring/telemetry staff
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted RN license (able to submit required license) — state licensing appropriate for assignment
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (ED experience strongly preferred)
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS (must be current)
- COVID-19 vaccination required per facility policy
- Comfort and experience with ventilator management and telemetry monitoring
- Ability to work in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment and handle aggressive or behavioral health patients
- Strong situational awareness, disaster preparedness, and active shooter (Code Silver) readiness
Education
- Active RN licensure required
- BSN preferred but not required; facility does not require BSN to submit
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficiency with Cerner PowerChart charting system
- Emergency and pediatric nursing best practices and triage skills
- Telemetry/monitor interpretation and bedside monitoring workflows
- Ventilator basics and collaboration with respiratory therapy
- Sepsis recognition and initial management
- Familiarity with Omnicell medication dispensing systems and pharmacy workflows
- Ability to work with paramedics, phlebotomy teams, and security staff in a multidisciplinary environment
- Trauma awareness and de-escalation techniques for behavioral health situations
