Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional emergency nursing care for a broad ED patient population, from minor illness to critical trauma stabilization
• Triage, assess and prioritize patients quickly and accurately to ensure timely interventions
• Interpret EKGs and recognize dysrhythmias to support rapid clinical decisions and patient safety
• Stabilize patients with MI/CVA and coordinate transfers when higher-level care is required
• Document patient care accurately and efficiently using Cerner
• Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, RT and pharmacy teams to deliver coordinated acute care
• Serve as charge nurse when assigned — managing flow, staffing and break relief
• Precept and orient new staff and travelers during floor-specific orientation (1–2 days with preceptor)

Qualifications

• Active RN license (must be eligible to submit)
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (ED experience strongly preferred)
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS
• Proven ability to read and interpret EKG strips and recognize dysrhythmias
• Cerner charting experience preferred
• Charge nurse experience accepted; 2 supervisory references required at submittal (one within 12 months and one within 3 years)
• Completion of the Dysrhythmia (basic) exam through Relias required within 24–48 hours prior to acceptance (pass/fail, two attempts allowed)

Education

• Active RN license required
• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong emergency department nursing skills and rapid assessment abilities
• EKG interpretation and dysrhythmia recognition
• Trauma stabilization and acute MI/CVA management
• Familiarity with telemetry and reading cardiac strips
• Comfortable working with hospitalist/intensivist teams and 24/7 RT and pharmacy support
• Ability to work independently on night shift while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
• Excellent documentation skills in Cerner
