Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the ER as Nurse Shift Manager or Charge RN, providing direction to the team
• Provide direct patient care when needed — triage ambulance patients, start IVs, and administer medications
• Serve as a resource nurse and step in for patient assignments during busy periods
• Coordinate patient flow and acuity-based staffing (1:4 ratio typical; 1:2 for ICU-level patients)
• Collaborate with hospitalists/intensivists, RT, pharmacy, and the MET team to ensure timely, safe care
• Support and mentor ED techs, LVNs, and midlevel providers in the fast-track area
• Maintain compliance with clinical documentation in Cerner and utilize Phillips telemetry when required

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to submit license for placement)
• Minimum 3 years of nursing experience, with ED/ER experience required
• Strong Charge RN or management/shift lead experience (Nurse Shift Manager role)
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS required
• Comfortable with triage, IV insertion, medication administration, and managing critically ill patients
• Ability to work nights and fulfill weekend/holiday requirements
• Team-player attitude and flexibility to float between two nearby campuses when needed

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma; BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Emergency nursing best practices and rapid triage skills
• Experience with Cerner electronic medical record/charting
• Familiarity with Phillips telemetry and ventilator basics
• Medication administration and IV therapy expertise
• Ability to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including RT and pharmacy (Omnicell)
• Leadership, shift management, and resource allocation in a busy ER environment
